In February 2008, the Dillinger Escape Plan somehow talked their way onto NBC's Late Night With Conan O' Brien, and proved to a national, network TV audience why they were widely considered to be one of the greatest and most unpredictable live acts of their time.
Supporting their third studio album, and second with singer Greg Puciato, 2007's Ire Works, the Jersey mathcore trailblazers played the Faith No More-ish standout "Black Bubblegum," arguably the catchiest, most family-friendly cut on the teeth-rattling LP. Still, it's a weird song, especially within the context of mainstream late-night television, and TDEP performed it with their characteristic interactive gusto.
Puciato, in particular, was in all over the place: onstage at first, but then in the audience (exchanging a high-five with, yes, that's Revolver's future Editorial Director!), and ultimately on top of Conan's desk. The host didn't seem to mind, though. He swayed along with a glowstick during one portion of the song, and at the end, congratulated the group on a "nice job," towering over Puciato. Watch above.
