Over the summer, Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci announced that not only was he embarking on his first-ever solo headlining tour, but he'd be joined by former Dream Theater bandmate Mike Portnoy on drums. Last night (October 5th), the tour commenced in Providence, Rhode Island, marking he first time Petrucci and Portnoy had played together onstage since before the drummer left Dream Theater 12 whole years ago.
The show went down at the Strand Ballroom & Theatre in Providence, and the setlist included numerous tracks from Petrucci's 2020 solo album, Terminal Velocity, which notably featured drumming by Portnoy. The founding Dream Theater percussionist had left the prog-metal vets on less-than-great terms back in 2010, but his studio and stage reunion with Petrucci — as well as his recent make-up with Dream Theater frontman James LaBrie — is a great sign that both parties are back on friendly terms.
